The Off Season: If we're smart, the majority of this trip will take place in the off-season - or rather, the shoulder season - when the crowds have largely dissipated and left behind empty campgrounds, wary locals and the last of some season's beautiful weather. Such was the case at Cathedral Gorge in Southeastern Nevada, where we spent the last night amongst the chatter of coyotes and two friendly Canadian retirees named Harvey and Joan.
